40 Hopefuls Meet at Beatrice Ice Gardens in Toronto, ON for Canada's National Junior Team's Evaluation Camp August 3-9

CALGARY, ALBERTA - Canada's National Junior Team will run it's Evaluation camp from August 3-9, 1999 at the Beatrice Ice Gardens at York University in Toronto, ON, the Canadian Hockey Association confirmed Friday.

Forty players will attend this year's camp and will be trying to impress the coaching staff with the ultimate goal of representing Canada at the 2000 World Junior Hockey Championship. Head coach Claude Julien and assistant coaches Geoff Ward and Todd McLellan will run practices and coach intra-squad games during the camp.

The forty players were selected by Barry Trapp, Director of Scouting, for the Canadian Hockey Association. Following the one-week camp, Trapp will continue to evaluate the play of these and other players during the 1999- 2000 hockey season and invite 30 players to the National Junior Team selection camp December 12-17, 1999 prior to the World Junior Hockey Championship in Sweden from to . Canada has won the World Junior Championship a record 10 times in the history of the tournament, including seven in the last ten years. Team Canada won an unprecedented five straight World Junior titles from 1993-97 and won the silver medal last year in Winnipeg, Manitoba. During the camp, players will be made available for media interviews following practices and games. All requests must be made through André Brin, Manager, Communications, who will be onsite.
