National Men's Team Evaluation Camps to Be Held in Caledon, Montreal and Calgary for 1997-98 Season

CALGARY, AB -- Canada's National Men's Hockey Team will hold the first of three player evaluation camps this weekend in Caledon, ON, Canadian Hockey announced Friday.

Forty-five players will attend the three-day camp, which will be overseen by head coach Andy Murray and associate coach and general manager Mike Johnston. The camp is being held at the Teen Ranch Ice Corral in Caledon.

Guest coaches Brian Hayton, Bob Noble, Marty Chesser, all of whom work with the Ontario Under-17 team, as well as Steve Smith, an assistant coach with the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League.

Similar camps will be held in Montreal, at Collège Brébeuf, and in Calgary at Father David Bauer Arena, the home of Canada's National Hockey Teams and the western headquarters of Canadian Hockey.

Guest coaches at the Montreal camp will be; Ed O'Brien, Greg Leland and Ron Watkins, all of whom worked with the Atlantic Under-17 Team at the 1997 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge in Red Deer, AB.

About 140 players in all will all compete for spots on the National Team, which will play a 55-game schedule in 1997-98, including participation in the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland, the Deutschland Cup in Germany, the Sweden Games in Stockholm as well as the club's annual tour of small-town Canada.
