PEDERSEN’S HAT TRICK LEADS NORWAY TO THIRD PLACE WITH WIN OVER JAPAN
CALGARY, Alta. – Rolf Pedersen scored a hat trick and added an assist to lead the offence as Norway
claimed third place in the preliminary round at the 2011 World Sledge Hockey Challenge with an 8-3 win over
Japan on Wednesday afternoon.
The victory means Norway will play the loser of Wednesday night’s Canada-U.S. game in one Thursday
semifinal, while Japan will take on the winner in the other final four match-up. Game times will be finalized
following the end of preliminary round action.
Pedersen’s fourth career WSHC hat trick paced a balanced Norwegian offence, which got goals from five
different players. Stig Tore Svee scored once and added two assists, Morton Vaernes had a pair of goals and
Ole Bjarte Austvoll and Magnus Bøgle also found the back of the net for the Norwegians. Thomas Jacobsen
pitched in with three assists.
Daisuke Uehara, Satoru Sudo and Kazuhiro Takahashi scored goals for the Japanese, who fought back from 1-0
and 2-1 deficits before Pedersen and Svee scored 44 seconds apart to give Norway the lead for good early in
the second period.
Norwegian netminder Kjell Christian Hamar and Japanese counterpart Shinobu Fukushima each made 12 saves as
Norway held a 20-15 advantage in shots on goal.
