REGINA, Sask. – Award winners for the 2010 Esso Cup, Canada’s National Female Midget Championship, were
announced at a banquet for the six participating teams on Thursday night.
The tournament’s awards committee named the six recipients, with the awards based on the round-robin games
played from Sunday, April 18 through Wednesday, April 21.
The 2010 Esso Cup award winners are:
Top Goaltender – Samantha Langford, Regina Rebels
Top Defensive Player – Riana Magee, Edmonton Thunder
Top Forward – Janik Robichaud, Moncton Rockets
Most Valuable Player – Kaitlyn Tougas, Thunder Bay Queens
Most Sportsmanlike Player – Kaitlyn Quarrell, Thunder Bay Queens
Top Scorer – Brienna Gillanders, Notre Dame Hounds
Following five days of competitive hockey at the Co-operators Centre at Evraz Place, the semifinal
matchups are set for Friday, April 23.
The fourth-place Edmonton Thunder (Pacific), who ended preliminary action with one win, two losses, one
overtime win and one overtime loss, will play the first-place Thunder Bay Queens (Ontario), who completed the
round-robin with four regulation wins and one loss, at 2 p.m. CT.
The third-place Regina Rebels (Host), who capped off the preliminary round with three wins and two losses,
will face off against the second-place Notre Dame Hounds (West), who finished the round-robin with three
regulation wins, one overtime win and one loss, at 7 p.m. CT.
The Moncton Rockets (Atlantic) and Remparts du Richelieu (Quebec) finished in fifth and sixth place,
respectively, and have been knocked out of the tournament after round-robin play.
The semifinal games, along with the bronze medal game at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday, April 24, will be
available online through FASTHockey at hockeycanada.fasthockey.com. Access Communications Co-operative
Limited, a local cable television provider in Regina, will also broadcast be broadcasting all three
games.
The winners of both semifinals will move on to the gold medal game, which will air live on Hockey Canada’s
official broadcaster TSN2 at 4 p.m. CT on Saturday, April 24. Day passes during the playoffs are $10 for
adults and $7 for seniors and students. Children 10 years old and under are admitted for free.
