CALGARY, Alta. – Canada’s National Sledge Team is returning to Charlottetown, P.E.I., with hopes of
striking gold once again.
Canada, which won the 2008 World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Charlottetown, will open the 2009 event
against arch-rival the United States at 7 p.m. AT on Tuesday, November 17. The other game that day has Norway
facing off against Japan (4:30 p.m. AT). The United States, Norway, Canada and Japan are the top four sledge
hockey teams in the world and will be competing at the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver.
The World Sledge Hockey Challenge is the last major international competition prior to the 2010
Paralympics.
“This is an important tournament as we move towards the largest sledge hockey tournament ever in March in
Vancouver,” says Jeff Snyder, head coach of Canada’s National Sledge Team. “We hope the fans in Charlottetown
will come out for all the games at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge because the hockey will be top-notch.
This is a chance for fans to see Paralympic-level sledge hockey.”
Tickets for the 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge are available through the CARI Complex box office at
(902) 569-4584. Single-game tickets are available for as low as $6.
Fans can follow the best sledge teams in the world via webcasts thanks to Hockey Canada and FASTHockey.
All games at the 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge, except for the gold medal game, will be available at hockeycanada.fasthockey.com. Individual games
are available for purchase, as are multiple FastHockey credits. These credits allow hockey fans to watch
upcoming Hockey Canada events including the 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, National Women’s Team
Midget Series and the National Junior Team selection camp games.”
The gold medal game, which will be held on Saturday, November 21 at 2 p.m. AT, will be shown on TSN2 and
RDS. Check local listings for broadcast times in your area.
All games at the 2009 World Sledge Hockey Challenge will be held at the CARI Complex, which has played
host to a number of Hockey Canada events, including the 2008 World Sledge Hockey Challenge and 2008 Esso
Women’s Nationals.
