Born in Toronto, Tom continues to call Toronto home.  After graduating from the University of Western Ontario with a B.A. in Economics, Tom joined the family business and assisted in the operation of a restaurant chain, airport food and beverage services and highway travel centres working his way up to become President and CEO before the selling the businesses to a multi-national. During this time Tom joined his brother Nick in the development of the Hard Rock Cafes in Canada, growing this franchise to become one of the great successes for “themed” restaurants in Canada.

In 1992 Tom partnered with Wayne Gretzky to create the only restaurant to which Wayne has lent his name.  In 1993 Tom’s family was awarded an NBA franchise for Toronto. Tom served on the Board from the inception during which the Raptors set a number of records for an expansion team including attendance and merchandise sales marks.

Currently Tom serves as Executive Chair AMJ Campbell Van Lines, Canada’s largest moving and self-storage company as well as Chair of PUR brands Inc and Powerbev, distributors of Red Bull Energy Drink in British Columbia and Ontario.

In the community Tom has participated in a number of roles in Big Brother Big Sisters for a number of years.  He is currently Chair of the Appeal Committee for Probation, Cops and Kids an organization dedicated to raising funds to support police interaction with youth-at-risk. He has supported the Iqualuit Stars hockey program both financially and through volunteering, bringing free hockey instruction to children in Nunavut. Tom is also on the Board of Advisors for the Wayne Gretzky Foundation, both in Canada and the USA.
In 2007, Tom was invested into the Order of Ontario in recognition for the contribution and work he has done for charities locally, provincially and nationally.

VICE CHAIR: GRANT B. FAGERHEIM 
CALGARY, ALBERTA 
PRESIDENT & CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER WHITECAP RESOURCES INC.

Grant Fagerheim was born and raised in Estevan, Saskatchewan and after graduating from the University of Calgary in 1982, he embarked on a career in the oil and gas industry. Mr. Fagerheim has worked in both the upstream and downstream segments of the energy industry and while doing so undertook his Executive MBA. He held various Management and Executive positions between 1995 and 2000 until founding Ketch Energy Ltd. Since 2000, Mr. Fagerheim has been President and CEO of Ketch Energy Ltd., Ketch Resources Ltd., Cadence Energy Inc. and currently is Director, President and CEO of Whitecap Resources Inc.

Mr. Fagerheim also currently serves on the Boards of Invico Capital Corp., IROC Systems Corp, and Pacific Rodera Energy Inc. His past directorships include Acclaim Energy Trust, Ketch Resources Trust, Advantage Energy Income Fund and Escavar Energy Inc. Other past and current professional affiliations include the Calgary Foundation - Investment Committee member, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen – Director, the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers – Governor, Young Presidents Organization – Member.

Mr. Fagerheim is a very active member in the community and has a passion for combining academics with athletics. He currently serves as Chairman of the Edge School for Athletes and is an Owner and Director of the National Sports Development facility.

Grant is supported by his wife Penny and two teenage sons, Brandon and Brett.

Barry F. Lorenzetti, was born and raised in Montreal, Canada and graduated from McGill University in 1974 with a B.A. Following his graduation he spent time in London, England working for a Lloyd’s brokerage company and upon his return to North America lived in New York working for Marsh Ltd. before returning home in the early 1980’s.

In 1987, he formed BFL Canada and is the current President and CEO of the nation’s largest privately owned insurance brokerage and risk management company with offices across the country. Barry serves on a number of Boards and non profit organizations and is a frequent speaker at various industry forums on insurance and related subjects.

TREASURER: ALLAN MATTHEWS

PAST CHAIR, HOCKEY CANADA BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Allan Matthews was born in Kimberley, British Columbia and graduated from the University of Victoria. Following that Allan was employed as a secondary school Teacher Librarian in Kimberley and Williams Lake and as the Resource Centre/Education Change Co-ordinator for the Cariboo-Chilcotin School Board.  He is currently retired.

An extensive background in hockey administration marks Allan’s volunteer service to the community. He has served on the executive board of minor hockey associations and leagues, Junior A & B teams and leagues, the British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association, and Hockey Canada’s Board of Directors. Allan also served as President of the BCAHA from 1991-1993 and Chair of Hockey Canada from 2003-2005. He was inducted into the BC Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008.

Allan has served as team manager for a number of teams at various levels. He occupied the dual role of Hockey Canada Rep and Education Advisor for Hockey Canada’s first team to participate in the IIHF Under 18 World Championships.

Over the years, Allan has served on a number of community and professional organizations including the Williams Lake Recreation Commissions, Cariboo-Chilcotin Teacher-Librarians’ Association, the BC Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee and Hockey Canada’s representative on the Canadian Olympic Committee.

PAST CHAIR: TIM F. MANNING

REGIONAL VICE PRESIDENT COMMERCIAL BANKING, B.C. RBC ROYAL BANK

As Regional Vice-President, Commercial Financial Services, B.C., Tim is responsible for leading the Commercial Financial Services business in the province of British Columbia. Previously, as Regional Vice-President, B.C. Interior & North, Tim was responsible for the Bank’s Personal, Financial Planning and Commercial/Business Banking operations.
Tim was born in Montreal, Quebec and graduated from Stanstead College and Bishop’s University.  In 1975 Tim joined RBC Financial Group, Canada’s largest and most diversified financial institution.   During his banking career, he has held a number of positions covering a broad range of disciplines and customer markets, including Multi-  National Banking, Special Loans, Commercial Markets, Small & Medium Enterprises, Retail Banking and Internal Audit Services.

Over the years, Tim has lived in different cities across the country, and has been actively involved in many community organizations and boards.  These organizations include, United Way, 24 Hour Relay for The Kids, Boat for Hope & Variety Club, Junior Achievement of B.C., Justice Institute of British Columbia Foundation, Vancouver Economic Development Commission, Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters, Fraser River Discovery Centre and The Greater Toronto Hockey League.  

Tim has also been very active in hockey as a coach, administrator and served as the National Chair of Hockey Canada’s Initiation Program from 1995 – 1998. A member of the Mississauga Hockey Hall of Fame, Tim is currently a Director and Chair of The Hockey Canada Foundation. He is also a Director of Junior Achievement  BC and a member of the Advisory Council for Variety, The Children’s Charity. His most recent appointment is to the Board of Directors of the Vancouver Board of Trade.

DIRECTOR: WALTER J. (JIM) TRELIVING 
DALLAS, TEXAS 
CHAIRMAN & FOUNDER BOSTON PIZZA INTERNATIONAL INC.

Jim Treliving serves as Chief Executive Officer and Owner of Boston Pizza International Inc. Mr. Treliving has been involved with the Boston Pizza concept since the early 1960’s.   After serving in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Mr. Treliving became a management trainee in the Edmonton, Alberta Boston Pizza Restaurant. He went on to purchase the first Boston Pizza franchise in British Columbia, located in Penticton. After establishing several additional Boston Pizza outlets, he acquired the franchise rights to the concept in 1983.   Mr. Treliving is an integral contributor to the conceptual development of Boston Pizza.

In 1998, Mr. Treliving relocated to Mississauga, Ontario to open up Boston Pizza’s regional corporate office to better serve new franchisees in the expanding central and eastern Canadian markets. In January 2001, Mr. Treliving relocated to Dallas from Mississauga to head up the parent company Boston Pizza Restaurants, LP which franchises restaurants under the name Boston’s the Gourmet Pizza.

Also active in other industries, Mr. Treliving is involved in a number of other business interests. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Canadian Hockey Foundation, as Chairman of the Central Hockey League, Mighty Peace Oil Services Ltd. and Global Entertainment Corporation. He is also actively involved in fundraising for the Boston Pizza Foundation.

DIRECTOR: MARK CHIPMAN 
WINNIPEG, MANITOBA

Mark Chipman was born and raised in Winnipeg and received an Honors BA in Economics as well as a Juris Doctorate in Law from the University of North Dakota.  Upon graduation, Mr. Chipman received his call to the Florida Bar where he began his practice as an Assistant District Attorney and later entered a private practice. Mark returned to Winnipeg in 1988 to work for the Birchwood Automotive Group and assumed the position of President in 1992. In September of 2001, Mark was named President of Birchwood’s parent the Megill Stephenson Company.

Mr. Chipman is the Governor of the Manitoba Moose Hockey Club and is a former Chairman of the Executive Committee of AHL Board of Governors. He is also the founder and Chairman of True North Holdings Ltd. who recently completed construction of the MTS Centre in downtown Winnipeg.

Mark has been a member of the board of several community non-profit and charitable concerns and is currently a member of the United Way of Winnipeg Campaign Cabinet.
He is particularly aware of the importance of minor hockey development having participated throughout much of his life in the Winnipeg Minor Hockey Association as both a player and a coach.

Mark and his wife Patti have three daughters; Sarah, Anne, and Mary all of whom participate in female hockey programs in Winnipeg.

DIRECTOR: DANIEL J. O’NEILL
MONTREAL, QUEBEC 

Prior to its merger with Coors, Mr. O'Neill was President and Chief Executive Officer of Molson Inc. and he served as Vice Chairman, Synergies & Integration of Molson Coors Brewing Company. Mr. O'Neill's career encompasses over 30 years of international experience in the consumer products area. Mr. O'Neill graduated from Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Queen's University with a Master's degree in Business Administration. Mr. O'Neill also participated in the Program for Management Development course at Harvard Business School.

Ryan Walter played 15 seasons and over 1000 games in the National Hockey League. Drafted second overall by the Washington Capitals in 1978, Ryan was named the youngest NHL captain in his second of 4 seasons, played 9 seasons and won a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens, and finally returned to his home province to play his last 2 years for the Vancouver Canucks. He was named Team Canada Captain in the World Junior Tournament, played in the NHL All-Star game in 1983 and for Team Canada in 4 World Championships, became a Vice-President of the National Hockey League Players Association, and was honoured as NHL Man of the Year in 1992.

As President of Heads-Up Communications Corp., Ryan is a much sought after motivational speaker, leadership coach, and the author of 3 books. In addition he provides hockey analysis for SporstNet Television and has worked on and off screen as a hockey expert in the movie Miracle and the television series, Making the Cut. He was a founding partner of 2 start-up companies, including Hotsportsnetworks, the creator of the Hockey Canada-endorsed CoachesPlanner. Ryan is also the creator of the hockey board game, Trade Deadline HOCKEYtm.

Ryan graduated with a Master of Arts in Leadership/Business from Trinity Western University in 2005. He has served on the board of Hockey Ministries International and has coached his three sons at virtually every level of Minor Hockey in British Columbia. Ryan resides in Langley BC with his wife, Jennifer, and 4 of their children: Christi, Ryan Jr., Joey, and Emma. The 5th, Ben, is pursuing his own hockey dream, playing in the American Hockey League.

Lois Mitchell calls Calgary home, although her roots are in Vancouver where she grew-up, took physical education at the University of British Columbia, and taught school there for two years before relocating to Calgary.

Lois found her entrepreneurial spirit in the 1970s when she started a successful sport merchandising business. She built her business from the ground up to encompass all of Western Canada before selling it in 1980.

In her next business venture, Lois combined her teaching roots with her business experience in Amherst Consultants, a corporate training firm specializing in marketing, sales, communication and leadership training. She is currently the Senior Partner at Rainmaker Global Business Development Calgary, with offices in Houston, London and Dubai.

Lois, as well as being involved in the sports business, in an active participant in sports and sports organizations and chaired the World’s Women Under 18 Junior Hockey Championships for Hockey Canada, held in Calgary in January, 2008. She is also on the Board of the Special Olympic Foundation, Toronto.

Lois extends her vast business knowledge to a wider range of volunteer and charitable causes. She is the current Chair the board of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce and is Vice Chair of the Global Business Forum in Banff, and is the Chair of the Advisory Board of the Latin America Research Centre at the University of Calgary. Lois is also the Past Chair of the board of the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and a past member of the board of the New York-based American Symphony Orchestra Council.

Lois is married to Doug Mitchell and they share four children; Shelley, Steve, SueAnne and Scott.

Brian Cooper has over 25 years’ experience in a wide variety of executive positions throughout the sports and entertainment industry. He founded Insight Sports Ltd., a well-known broadcast/production company and built properties like: The NHL Network, GOL TV, The World Fishing Network, Gold Rush 2002, Ultimate Gretzky, and the long-running TV series, The Business of Sports. Brian was VP Operations and Business Development at Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment and was part of the executive team that created and launched the Raptors brand experience (an innovative blend of entertainment, sport and music). He was also President and COO of the Toronto Argonauts and was credited with the revival of football in the Toronto marketplace in the 1990s. Brian currently sits on the charitable boards of the Wayne Gretzky Foundation and Canada Basketball. In December 2007, The Globe & Mail named Brian as one of the top 25 most influential figures in Canadian sport.
