EPISODE 5 – FEMALE HOCKEY
|

Since Canada’s National Women’s Team debuted on the international stage in 1990, winning gold at the
inaugural IIHF World Women’s Championship in Ottawa, female hockey has continued to grow. As Canada collected
world titles, and then Olympic golds, more and more young girls across the country were eager to lace up
their skates and hit the ice. Now, as the Vancouver Olympics approach and women’s hockey prepares for what
might be its biggest boom in popularity ever, Hockey Canada Frequency takes a look at where the female game
is going, and where it has been.
Guests include:
Megan Blaker – chair, 2009 National Women’s Under-18 Championship
Julie Healy – director of female hockey, Hockey Canada
Hayley Wickenheiser – centre, Canada’s National Women’s Team
