The Officers of Hockey Canada for the 2003-2004 season will be as follows:
Allan Matthews - Williams Lake, BC - Chair of the Board (2 year term)
René Marcil - St-Louis-de-France, QC - Executive Vice-Chair (2 year term)
Dr. Allan Morris - Wiarton, ON - Vice-chair at Large (2 year term)
Marcel Redekop - Herbert, SK - Vice-chair at Large (2 year term)
Mike Bruni - Calgary, AB - Vice-chair at Large (1 year term)
Ken Corbett - Carleton Place, ON - Vice-chair at Large (1 year term)
Jim Hornell - Grand Falls-Windsor, NF - Vice-chair at Large (1 year term)
Sheldon Lanchbery - Deloraine, MB - Past chair (2 year term)
Three members of the Hockey Canada Board of Directors are departing: Denny Deveau, Tom
Lundy & Wayne Russell.
Hockey Canada’s council chairs for the 2003-2004 season will be:
Gay Hahn- Vancouver, BC - Chair – Female Council
Bob James - Kimberley, BC - Chair – Senior Council
George Kallay - Drumheller, AB - Chair – Hockey Development Council
Wayne Kartusch - Regina, SK - Chair – Junior Council
Frank Osborne- Dartmouth, NS - Chair – Minor Council
Two other positions were also elected on Tuesday:
Sheldon Lanchbery - Deloraine, MB - International Director
Maurice Roy - Grand Falls, NB - Referee-in-Chief

Checking workshop
A four step teaching progression was emphasized during a 90 minute session:
1. angling and positioning
2. stick checking
3. body contact / confidence
4. body checking
A checking PSA was created and aired during all TSN CHA telecasts and NHL games over the past 30 days
Discussed the process on 7 questions that were derived by the ‘checking committee members’ More discussion
on checking may take place within councils and during Monday’s plenary session
Council Meeting Highlights
Female
- divided into groups of 4 and conducted the age advancement workshop
- began to identify council priorities and objectives for next season
Minor
- strategic planning review – council is ok with the process of this
- put together a committee to study the age advancement within minor hockey – this committee will report back
at Fall Council
- discussed the body checking workshop
Junior
- age advancement workshop took place
- discussed the CAN/USA transfer agreement
- junior/CHL/Branch issues and concerns were discussed
- discussion regarding Revenue Canada issues
- CHA/NHL agreement and development fees discussed
HDC
- strategic planning discussed…council identified three key priority -
activities to persue in 2003-2004:
- HDC’s role with POE program(s)
- HDC’s role in Female hockey
- Strategic long-range plan for HDC
- age advancement workshop took place
Senior
-next season, the 2004 Allan Cup will execute a pilot project by having 6 teams participate. This will have
representation from each region of Canada, plus the host team
- the 2004 Allan Cup will take place in St-Georges, QC
