The 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship has unveiled the Saskatchewan hockey legends and stars that will
be featured on game tickets of the 2010 WJC starting with the Canada vs. Sweden pre-competition game in
Regina on December 20, 2009.
The game tickets will feature images of such Saskatchewan hockey legends as Gordie Howe and Sid Abel, current
stars such as Patrick Marleau and Brenden Morrow and builders such as Ed Chynoweth and Bill Hunter.
The images of the Saskatchewan hockey figures will be featured on the 21 game tickets in Saskatoon and the 12
game tickets in Regina.
“These tickets will be a tremendous keepsake and wonderful commemorative item for hockey fans,” says Rob
Jones, general manager of the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship.
The players, coaches and builders chosen were selected with the help of the general public. Fans were
recently asked to nominate through the Regina Leader-Post and Saskatoon StarPhoenix a player, coach or
builder with Saskatchewan ties who they felt should be on WJC game tickets. Over 300 names of Saskatchewan
hockey icons were received from coast to coast and considered. “So many were deserving,” says Jones, “but
there were only 33 tickets and so this is a great cross-section from different eras of those who contributed
so much to the game.”
The commemorative tickets featuring the images of the hockey icons will be printed on all ticket packages
purchased to date. However, fans who are interested in the commemorative ticket package still have time to
get in on this keepsake. The WJC is making the commemorative images available on all ticket packages
purchased prior to September 30, 2009.
“If you don’t want to miss out on a valuable hockey keepsake, you are encouraged to purchase your
commemorative ticket package before the end of September,” adds Jones.
Tickets for the 2010 World Juniors are available through Ticketmaster, either at www.ticketmaster.ca, 1-800-970-SEAT, or any Ticketmaster outlet.
