SASKATCHEWAN – The 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship host organizing committee announced today that six
communities throughout Saskatchewan will play host to pre-competition games prior to the tournament in Regina
and Saskatoon.
The communities of Swift Current, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Unity, Prince Albert and Humboldt will each host one
pre-competition game. The announcement was made today at news conferences held in each of the six communities
with representatives of the 2010 World Juniors on hand.
“I can’t describe how excited we are to have these communities involved,” says Jack Brodsky, president of
the WJC host committee. “This is what makes this a provincial event and we know that each one of these
communities is going to make it a special experience for the players. These young men will go back to their
families and friends with great stories about what a wonderful place Saskatchewan is.”
The dates and teams have yet to be determined, but local organizing committees in each of the communities
are already planning events and celebrations around the games, which will take place between December 19 and
23, 2009.
“Saskatchewan has such a great hockey culture,” says Mark Stefan, vice-president of the WJC
pre-competition committee. “Our province also has a dedicated network of volunteers and amazing hospitality.
These games are going to be something special.”
The dates for the pre-competition games in the six communities along with the dates that tickets will go
on sale will be announced soon.
