CALGARY, Alta. – Team Canada fans will get their chance to bid on exclusive game-worn jerseys from the
2009 and 2008 IIHF World Championships.
Hockey Canada, in partnership with eBay Canada, will launch the 2009 IIHF World Championship Team Canada
auction on Monday, May 4. Team Canada is currently in Switzerland in an attempt to win gold for the second
time in three years at the IIHF World Championship.
Hockey Canada will auction off two sets of jerseys – game-worn jerseys from the 2009 IIHF World
Championship and game-worn jerseys from the 2008 event in Halifax, N.S., and Quebec City, Que., where Canada
won the silver medal. Canada’s players will wear two sets of jerseys during the 2009 event – one red and one
white – and one of those sets will go up for auction. It hasn’t been determined, at this time, which set will
be offered to fans.
Among the 2009 jerseys up for grabs are those of captain Shane Doan, Canada’s modern day all-time leading
goal-scorer Dany Heatley, and rookies Steven Stamkos, Luke Schenn and Drew Doughty. The 2008 white game-worn
jerseys include those of Eric Staal, Ryan Getzlaf and Rick Nash.
All jerseys are game-worn and authentic Team Canada merchandise. Letters of authenticity will accompany
the jerseys for those who win with their bids.
Proceeds from the sale of these jerseys will support the preparation of Canada’s 2010 men’s, women’s and
sledge hockey Olympic and Paralympic teams in their quest for gold medals.
