DOUGHTY'S THREE POINTS HELPS CANADA TO 5-1 VICTORY OVER NORWAY

KLOTEN, Switzerland – The routine victories just keep on coming for Canada at the IIHF World Hockey Championship.

Drew Doughty had a goal and two assists Sunday as the Canadians beat Norway 5-1.

Canada has outscored its opponents by a combined score of 32-6 and has yet to trail at any point of the tournament. The first strong challenge could come Monday when Canada wraps up the qualification round with a game against Finland.

After that, it will travel to Bern for the medal round starting with a quarter-final game on Wednesday.

Matthew Lombardi, Dan Hamhuis, Steven Stamkos and Jason Spezza also had goals for Canada (5-0).

Mats Zuccarello Aasen replied for Norway (1-3-1).

Defencemen Marc-Edouard Vlasic and Braydon Coburn were able to ease their way into the Canadian lineup as coach Lindy Ruff cycled through eight blue-liners. Travis Zajac also looked good in his first game while playing on a line with Shawn Horcoff and Mike Fisher.

The Norwegians lost 2-1 to Canada at last year's world championship and briefly looked as though they might be able to keep this one close. After Lombardi opened the scoring by splitting the defence and slipping the puck between Andre Lysenstoen's legs, Zuccarello Aasen tied the game on a power play.

He beat Chris Mason at 12:53 of the first period by banking the puck off the Canadian goalie from behind the net.

A pair of goals just under a minute apart put Canada ahead for good. The smooth-skating Hamhuis made a couple nice moves before beating Lysenstoen with a well-placed wrist shot at 17:08, and Stamkos got his tournament-leading sixth goal with a nice one-timer at 18:03.

The Canadians really turned it on the second period.

Spezza made it 4-1 just 37 seconds in by lifting a rebound over Lysenstoen during a delayed penalty call. That chased the Norwegian goalie – a predictable occurrence since it's the fourth time Canada has seen it happen in five games here.

Pal Grotnes held his own in relief, surrendering a goal to Doughty with a low shot in the second period before closing the door in the third.

Mason earned his third victory of the tournament and also had an assist on Lombardi's game-opening goal. He's the fourth Canadian goaltender to register a point at this event.
