ZURICH-KLOTEN, SWITZERLAND – Team Canada general manager Doug Armstrong completed Canada’s roster for the
2009 IIHF World Championship in Switzerland on Thursday, adding forward Travis Zajac (Winnipeg, Man./ New
Jersey, NHL) to its 25-player roster. The 2009 IIHF World Championship runs from April 24-May 10 in
Zurich-Kloten and Bern.
Canada’s active roster now includes 24 players, including three goaltenders, nine defencemen and 12
forwards. With Neal also remaining on the roster, Canada has completed its roster.
The roster includes 14 players with World Championship experience (Armstrong, Doan, Fisher, Hamhuis,
Heatley, Horcoff, Lombardi, Mason, Phillips, Roloson, Roy, St. Louis, Spezza, Weber). Seven of the World
Championship rookies (Coburn, Doughty, Harding, Schenn, Stamkos, Upshall, White) have had international
experience with the National Junior Team. Zajac and Vlasic have no previous international experience.
Canada’s World Championship management group is working closely with Canada’s 2010 Olympic Management
Group, led by Executive Director Steve Yzerman, in assembling this team and using this as an additional
opportunity to prepare for the 2009-10 season, which will include the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.
Canada faces the Czech Republic in its first game of the qualification round at the 2009 IIHF World
Championship, on Thursday, April 30 at 2:15 p.m. (EST)/ 8:15 p.m. (Local Time).
