OTTAWA, ON – Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) announced on Monday that 16 players were
released from Canada’s National Junior Team selection camp on Monday, December 15th and returned to their
respective club teams.
The sixteen players released were: goaltenders Jake Allen (New Maryland, NB/ Montreal, QMJHL) and Tyson
Sexsmith (Priddis, AB/ Vancouver, WHL); defencemen Tyler Cuma (Bowmanville, ON/ Ottawa, OHL), Travis Hamonic
(St. Malo, MB/ Moose Jaw, WHL), Kevin Marshall (Boucherville, QC/ Quebec, QMJHL), Brendan Smith (Mimico, ON/
Wisconsin University, WCHA), Jared Spurgeon (Edmonton, AB/ Spokane, WHL) and Patrick Wiercioch (Maple Ridge,
BC/ Denver University, WCHA); forwards Jamie Arniel (Kingston, ON/ Sarnia, OHL), Matt Calvert (Brandon, MB/
Brandon, WHL), Matt Duchene (Haliburton, ON/ Brampton, OHL), Taylor Hall (Kingston, ON/ Windsor, OHL), Nazem
Kadri (London, ON/ London, OHL), Evander Kane (Vancouver, BC/ Vancouver, WHL), Riley Nash (Kamloops, BC/
Cornell University, ECAC) and Brayden Schenn (Saskatoon,SK/ Brandon, WHL).
Calvert came into camp with a previous back injury and was unable to take part in any on-ice sessions.
Cuma was injured in the first intrasquad game and was unable to take part in the final two intrasquad
games.
With these player releases, the National Junior Team roster has now been set at 22 players, including two
goaltenders, eight defencemen and 12 forwards. Go to

Canada will play its first game of the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship on Boxing Day, December 26
versus the Czech Republic, a game that will be broadcast LIVE by TSN/RDS and on The FAN Radio Network (check
local listings).
Canada has medaled at ten straight IIHF World Junior Championships including gold medal performances in
2008, 2007, 2006, 2005, silver medals in 2004, 2003, 2002, 1999 and bronze medals in 2001 and 2000.
