OVERVIEW:
The 2009 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship will take place from December 26, 2008 to January 5, 2009.
Direct Energy and the Host Organizing Committee are proud to announce a school program developed to excite
students about learning through Canada’s favourite sport – hockey.
The Game On for Learning program was developed by teachers with a passion for hockey and a passion for
learning. The program comes complete with lesson plans and exercises available for primary, junior, and
intermediate levels, designed with literacy and numeracy learning outcomes for the Ontario educational
curriculum. Lesson plans are now available and include these literacy blocks:
· Interactive Read Aloud
· Shared Reading Activities
· Guided Reading
· Independent Reading
· Writing Activities

CONTEST:
Teachers enter online for your chance to win tickets to see a 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship game for
your class. Five prize packs are up for grabs. Each prize pack contains 60 tickets.
The Contest is open to elementary classrooms that are part of the following school boards: Ottawa
Carleton District School Board; Ottawa Carleton Catholic District School Board; Upper Canada District School
Board; Catholic District School board of Eastern Ontario; Conseil des écoles catholiques de langue française
du Centre-Est; Conseil de district des écoles publiques de langue française. Each selected eligible entrant
must correctly answer a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question. The approximate retail value of
each Prize is CDN $600-$1,200, depending on game. The odds of winning depend on the number of entries

PROJECT SUBMISSIONS:
Teachers and students are encouraged to submit their projects (essays, artwork, etc) to be displayed at the
discretion of the Host Organizing Committee.

Suite N204, Ottawa, ON K1N 6N5. Submissions remain the property of Hockey Canada.
