CANADA’S NATIONAL WOMEN’S TEAM HOPEFULS SET TO TAKE THE ICE IN CALGARY

CALGARY, AB – Team Red and Team White will practice on Wednesday as Hockey Canada holds the first National Women’s Team camp of the 2008-09 season.

The evaluation camp will take place at Calgary’s Father David Bauer Olympic Arena through Sunday, September 21. It will be one of a number of events that Hockey Canada staff will use to determine Canada’s rosters for the 2008 4 Nations Cup (November 4-9 in Lake Placid, NY), 2009 IIHF World Women’s Championship (April 4-12, 2009 in Hameenlinna, Finland) and the 2009-10 Olympic team centralization in Calgary.

Starting on Thursday, Team Red and Team White will play games against two local Midget AAA boys teams, the Calgary Flames and UFA Bisons, members of the Alberta Midget Hockey League. Each of the four teams will play one another in round-robin action, with the top two teams and bottom two teams meeting on Sunday, the final day of the camp.

“We’re looking forward to getting the 2008-09 season started,” says Melody Davidson, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “We have a busy season ahead of us, with a number of camps and tournaments on the schedule.”

Hockey Canada announced on Wednesday that two players have been added to the original roster posted last week. Forwards Ann-Sophie Bettez (Sept-Îles, QC/McGill University, CIS) and Dominique Thibault (Ottawa, ON/University of Connecticut, HE) will be members of Team White.
