CANADA SET TO TAKE ON THE WORLD IN CHINA

HARBIN, CHINA – Jennifer Botterill (Winnipeg, MB/Mississauga, CWHL) will reach a milestone on Friday when she suits up with her Canadian teammates as they take on Russia at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Championship.

Botterill will play in her 150th-career game for the National Women’s Team, becoming only the sixth player to do that (she will join Hayley Wickenheiser, Danielle Goyette, Jayna Hefford, Vicky Sunohara and Cassie Campbell).

Canada’s National Women’s Team faces Russia in the first game for both teams at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Championship. Canada is in Pool A with Russia and China and the tournament, which includes three pools of three teams, follows a round-robin format to start.

The teams that finish first in each of the pools after the round-robin will then move on to the qualifying round.

Team Canada is attempting to win its second-straight IIHF World Women’s Championship, after having claimed the 2007 title in Manitoba. Canada has won nine of the 10 world championships held all-time.
