CANADA DROPS 5-3 FINAL TO SILVERTIPS IN COLWOOD
COLWOOD, BC – Jayna Hefford (Kingston, ON/Brampton, CWHL) scored at 5:22 of the third period but it wasn’t
enough as Canada couldn’t complete a comeback in a 5-3 loss to the North Island Silvertips Midget AAA boys
team on Saturday.
The game was Canada’s second during its four-day pre-worlds camp in British Columbia. On Thursday, Canada
defeated the South Island Silvertips 7-1.
Canada opened the scoring on Saturday, when Delaney Collins (Pilot Mount, MB/Calgary, WWHL) blasted a
one-timer past South Island goaltender Braeden Johnson.
But North Island came back with two goals in 41 seconds, as Jacob Perich and Kyle Yamasaki beat Charline
Labonte (Boisbriand, QC/McGill, CIS).
Sarah Vaillancourt (Sherbrooke, QC/Harvard, ECAC) scored for Canada in the second period but the team was
down 4-2 heading into the third.
Hefford’s goal cut the deficit to one but that’s as close as Canada got.
Team Canada’s players and staff will depart for China on Sunday. The 2008 IIHF World Women’s Championship
opens on April 4 in Harbin, China.
