2008 IIHF WORLD WOMEN’S UNDER-18 CHAMPIONSHIP
SET TO BEGIN IN CALGARY, AB

CALGARY, AB – Eight hockey nations will converge on Calgary, AB beginning Monday, as the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship kicks off at Father David Bauer Arena and Norma Bush Arena. The event, the first-ever world championship for the women’s Under-18 level, will run from January 7-12, 2008.

Canada, Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States will begin play Monday with the hope of playing for the gold medal and a world championship on Saturday night.

The gold medal game on Saturday, November 12th will begin at 7:30 p.m. MT. The gold medal game, as well as all nine other games taking place at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena, will be available via webcast at www.hockeycanada.ca and at www.telus.com/hockeycanada.

The 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship is an opportunity to see future stars of the IIHF World Women’s Championship and the Olympic Winter Games of 2010 in Vancouver, BC and beyond. Many women’s hockey stars, including Hayley Wickenheiser and Cheryl Pounder of Canada, Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell of the United States and Maria Rooth and Kim Martin of Sweden, made their international debuts prior to the age of 18.

Single game tickets for the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship will be available at the door.

Prices are as follows:
Non-Team Canada games $5
Team Canada games $10
Bronze medal game $10
Gold medal game $12

Family packs, which include two parents and four children under the age of 18, are available for $25, while a Championship Badge, which allows access to all 20 games and includes a complimentary event program and a championship lapel pin, is available for $99.
