LONDON, ON – The alumni list includes players like Rick Nash, Marc-Andre Fleury, Ilya Kovalchuk and
Vincent Lecavalier.
Yes, the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is a breeding ground for some of the future stars of
international hockey and the NHL. And the 2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is only two days away.
The city of London, ON will play host to the 2008 event, along with partner venues in Lucan, Strathroy,
St. Thomas, Stratford and Woodstock. Five exhibition games will be played on December 28th and round-robin
action begins on December 29th.
“Anyone who has been to this event in the past knows of the many talented players on the ice,” says Al
Murray, head scout of Hockey Canada. “And this year will be no different. There are a number of players who
will get people talking. This is one of the best hockey tournaments around.”
The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is the first step of Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence. The
program also includes the National Men’s Under-18 Team and the National Junior Team.
