INTERNATIONAL ROSTERS ANNOUNCED FOR 2007 WORLD JUNIOR A CHALLENGE

CALGARY – Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL), announced today rosters for the four international teams who will compete at the 2007 World Junior A Challenge.

Teams from Belarus, Germany, Russia and the USA will join Canada West and Canada East at the six-team international event, which will run from November 5-11 in Trail and Nelson, BC.

Russia will hold a selection camp prior to the start of the 2007 World Junior A Challenge, following which the final roster will be named. Hockey Canada will post the final roster as soon as it is released.

The rosters include:

Four players who took part in the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship (Korobov, Stsefanovich, Voroshilov – Belarus, Voynov – Russia)

Two (2) players who took part in the 2007 Canada-Russia Super Series (Voynov, Chudinov – Russia)

Thirty-two (32) players who took part in the 2007 IIHF World Under-18 Championship (eight from Belarus, eight from Russia, 16 from Germany)

Five players selected at the 2007 NHL Entry Draft (Sacchetti – USA, 2nd Round, 50th Overall, Dallas; Blood – USA, 4th Round, 120th Overall, Ottawa; Lee – USA, 5th Round, 131st Overall, Florida; Kessel – 6th Round, 166th Overall, NY Islanders; Larson – USA, 7th Round, 185th Overall, Washington)

Seventeen (17) returning players from the 2006 World Junior A Challenge (Keller, Tanzer, Mangold, Akdag, Sturm, Heyer, Ackermann, Thomson, Buchwieser, Christ, Geiger, Huebscher, Oblinger, Oppolzer, Rupprich, Wolf, Hinterstocker – Germany)

The gold medal game at the 2007 World Junior A Challenge will take place on Sunday, November 11 and will be broadcast on TSN, the official broadcaster of Hockey Canada (check your local listings).
