MINOR HOCKEY PLAYERS JOIN IN TICKET PROMO
FOR CHANCE AT PRIZES

by Guy Bertrand – Trail Daily Times

The World Junior A Hockey Challenge committee is putting a challenge out to local minor hockey players.

The Rossland-Trail Minor Hockey Association's players have been asked to sell one tournament package per player to help reach the goal of 500 packages; each player that sells a package will be entered to win one of three great prizes.

RTMHA president Shaw Brandt said getting the minor hockey players involved is a great way to promote the event.

"All the kids are pumped up about this and it's our way to give back to the community. It shows the spirit of minor hockey."

With over 250 kids registered in minor hockey, Brandt is hoping some of the kids will take the initiative to sell more than one package and, of course, increase their opportunity to win one of the prizes.

One player will be selected to be a junior host for a Team Canada West game. The lucky recipient will have the opportunity to meet the players and help with the pre-game preparations.

One player will be selected to skate with Team Canada West before the start of the game and stand on the blueline with the players during the playing of the national anthems.

One player and his entire team will have the opportunity to participate in a Team Canada West practice.

Each player will have his name entered once for every package sold.

Order forms can be found at the RTMHA website or at the Minor Hockey Room in the Memorial Centre.

Kevin Webster, manager of events for Hockey Canada, said incorporating minor hockey into the event is a great idea.

"We've definitely had success with that in the past. To not involve minor hockey, in a community with such a rich tradition, it would be tough for the event to be successful."

Barb Blatchford of the World Junior A Challenge organizing committee told the Nelson News that 300 packages for the event have already been sold.

"Last year at this time in Yorkton (the 2006 World Junior A Challenge hosts), they had only sold 60 packages."

Webster said that puts the host committee in a great position.

"The committee is doing a great job. To have 300-plus packages in the bank is terrific."
