London, the largest City in southwestern Ontario, with a population of 350,000, is the economic heart of
Southwestern Ontario. Within a thirty-minute drive from London’s downtown, lie the cities of St. Thomas,
Woodstock and Stratford. Within a one-hour drive of London are the cities of Sarnia, Brantford and Kitchener.
London is also the midpoint between the large metropolitan areas of Toronto and Detroit.

London has a rich and proud historic sports background and an extensive sport infrastructure. Since 1965,
the London Knights Junior A Hockey Club has competed in the Ontario Hockey League and in 2005, the team won
the MasterCard Memorial Cup in front of the hometown fans. The home of the Knights and the central site for
the 2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge is the 9100 seat John Labatt Centre, which opened on October 11,
2002. In recent years, the city of London has been successful in attracting the 2001 Canada Summer Games, the
2004 World In-Line Hockey Championships, the 2004 Can-Am Police-Fire Games, the 2004 CHL Prospects Game, the
2005 Canadian Figure Skating Championships, the 2005 World Transplant Games, the 2005 Memorial Cup, the 2006
Scott Tournament of Hearts and the 2006 World Field Lacrosse Championships.
