PEMBROKE LUMBER KINGS (EAST) OVERViEW

Two-time national runners-up (1973, 1977) during the Centennial Cup days, the Lumber Kings are in the RBC Royal Bank Cup looking for their first-ever National Junior A Championship. Central Junior A Hockey League champions for the first time since winning six league championships in eight years from 1982 to 1989, the Lumber Kings were the best team in the CJHL throughout the regular season, as evidenced by their 44-10-2-2 record and 86 points, 22 points up on the second-place Ottawa Jr. Senators. Scott Campbell ran away with the league scoring championship, finishing with 107 points (53 goals, 54 assists) in just 41 games, 18 points ahead of runner-up Dan Sullivan of Ottawa, who played 14 games more than Campbell did. Goaltenders Mavric Parks and Paul Beckwith were also league leaders, as they topped all CJHL goaltenders who played at least 20 games, with Beckwith’s 2.27 goals against average slightly ahead of Parks’ 2.48. Parks’ 27 wins were also first in the league. After sweeping the Kanata Stallions in the opening round of the CJHL playoffs, the Lumber Kings took care of the Hawkesbury Hawks in six games and the Nepean Raiders in five to be crowned CJHL champions for 2006/07. Pembroke continued their strong play at the Fred Page Cup in St-Jérôme, QC, going 2-1 in the round robin to earn a bye to the final, where they topped the host Panthères 5-2, gaining a measure of revenge for their loss to l’Action de Joliette in the Fred Page Cup final in 2006, when they hosted the event.
