HOCKEY CANADA ANNOUNCES THAT QUEBEC CITY WILL REMAIN AS CO-HOST OF THE 2008 IIHF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP FOLLOWING CITY COUNCIL APPROVAL ON WEDNESDAY

Calgary, AB - Hockey Canada is pleased to announce, following official ratification by Quebec City Council on Wednesday, that Quebec City will remain as co-host of the 2008 IIHF World Hockey Championship, along with Halifax. On Wednesday, January 31st, Quebec City Council officially ratified the host agreement that was signed originally in April 2003, as well as approving operational and financial plans for the 2008 IIHF World Championship.

Over the coming days, Hockey Canada will continue to work out the details of the plans with Quebec City organizers and make an official announcement shortly.

Quebec City organizers have been in communication with Hockey Canada over the past week, and will be submitting additional information for review. Once Hockey Canada and the Championship Steering Committee have had the opportunity to review the information and the documents in detail, a formal announcement will be made along with Quebec City organizers.

“Hockey Canada is very pleased with the developments in Quebec City over the past week,” said Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson.  “Hockey Canada and the Championship Steering Committee are looking forward to working with Quebec City in partnership with Halifax, and finalizing operational and financial plans as soon as possible.”
