CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada announced on Sunday an update to Team Canada's roster for the 2006 Spengler Cup, which kicks off on Boxing Day in
Switzerland.
Forwards Dale McTavish (Eganville, ON/Zurich, SUI) and Serge Aubin (Val d’Or, QC/Servette, SUI) won’t be
able to play in the tournament due to injury. Hockey Canada has added forwards Tim Brent (Cambridge,
ON/Portland, AHL) and Mirko Murovic (Montreal, QC/Lugano, SUI) to replace the injured players.
“It’s unfortunate that Dale and Serge won’t be able to play in the Spengler Cup, which is a tournament all
of our players are looking forward to,” said Johnny Misley, Hockey Canada’s Executive Vice President. “But
we’re also happy that Tim and Mirko could join the team on such short notice.”
The Spengler Cup dates back to 1923 and is the oldest continual club tournament in the world. Canada has
won 10 titles since it started competing in the event in 1984. Canada last won the Spengler Cup in 2003.
All of Canada’s games will be shown on Sportsnet, beginning with the Boxing Day game against Mora IK
(Sweden). Click here for Sportsnet’s full broadcast
