CALGARY, AB – Canada’s National Sledge Hockey Team will look to continue its tradition of excellence
during a 2006 European Tour that will include stops in Norway and Germany from November 14-25, 2006.
The defending Paralympic champion Canadian National Sledge Hockey Team departs for Europe on November 14th
for an 11-day tour, which will include six games against the German and Norwegian national teams.
Canada plays its first game on November 17th, when Canada faces Germany in the first of three games
between the clubs. The teams are to meet again on November 18th.
Both games against Germany, along with Canada’s practices from November 15-16, will take place at the
Icehouse in Mellendorf, which is just outside of Hanover.
Canada also will face Germany on November 19th at the TUI Arena, which is home to the German Elite
League’s Hanover Scorpions. Members of Team Canada have been invited to watch the Scorpions in action prior
to hitting the ice themselves.
The tour continues with three games against Norway at the Gjovik Olympic Fjellhall, 140 kilometres north
of Oslo, November 22-24. Team Canada is scheduled to return to Canada on November 25th.

TEAM CANADA HISTORY
When Canada faces Norway on Nov. 22, it will be the first meeting between the teams since Canada won 3-0
in March 2006 to win gold at the Paralympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy.
Canada now has four international gold medals to its credit, having won the 2000 World Championship as
well as the 1992 and 1991 World Cups.
Fourteen members of the squad that won gold in Italy are on the roster for the European Tour.

SLEDGE HOCKEY is the Paralympic version of hockey and, since its debut on the Paralympic
program at the 1994 Lillehammer Paralympic Winter Games, it has become one of the biggest attractions for
spectators at the Paralympic Winter Games. It is fast-paced, highly physical and played by male athletes with
a physical disability in the lower part of the body. Canada captured its first ever sledge hockey gold medal
at the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games, defeating Norway, the defending world champions, 3-0 in the final
game.
