Kitchener, ON – Prior to the Friday evening game, the five captains of Canada’s Women’s World and Olympic
teams were honoured. Sue Scherer (unable to attend due to commitments with Sport Canada), France St-Louis,
Stacy Wilson, Therese Brisson and Cassie Campbell were honoured on-ice and presented with commemorative
plaques featuring all five captains.
Scherer captained the team to a gold medal at the first-ever World Championship, in 1990. St-Louis was
Canada’s captain at the 1992 and 1994 World Championships, winning gold medals both years. Wilson captained
Canada to a gold medal at the 1997 World Championship, and then wore the ‘C’ for Canada at the 1998 Olympics,
winning a silver medal. Brisson won three consecutive World Championships from 1999 through 2001. Campbell,
meanwhile, captained Canada to two Olympic gold medals (2002, 2006) and two World Championships (2004,
2005).
