CANADA EVENS UP EXHIBITION SERIES WITH WIN OVER USA
Team Canada rebounded from their overtime loss on Thursday night, downing the Americans 6-0 Friday night
at the University of Ottawa Sportsplex.
After neither team could capitalize on early power play opportunities, the Canadians got on the board at
the 16:08 mark, as Tarin Podloski (St. Albert, AB) jumped into the play and one-timed a pass from Melanie
Gagnon (St. Adolphe, MB) past American goaltender Emily Brookshaw. Catherine Ward (Montreal, QC) also picked
up an assist on the goal.
The Canadians extended their lead just over a minute later, as Dominique Thibault (L’Orignal, ON) found
the back of the net following a scramble in front of the American goal. Sabrina Harbec (Montreal, QC) and
Valerie Chouinard (Matane, QC) picked up the assists on Thibault’s goal at 17:32.
Hayley McMeekin (Unionville, ON) rounded out the scoring in the first period, directing home a beautiful
feed from Podloski at 19:35.
The Canadians pushed their lead to 4-0 midway through the second period, as Meghan Agosta (Ruthven,ON)
fired home a shot from the slot at the 9:42 mark. Sarah Vaillancourt (Sherbrooke, QC) and Bobbi Jo Slusar
(Swift Current, SK) picked up the helpers.
Chouinard scored Canada’s fifth goal, and her second in as many nights, driving to the net and scoring
unassisted at 19:37.
Rebecca Johnston (Sudbury, ON), Canada’s youngest player at just 16, rounded out the night’s scoring,
finding the back of the net on a Canadian powerplay at 9:14 of the final period. Laura Fridfinnson (Arborg,
MB) and Ward picked up the assists on the goal.
Canadian goaltender Laura Hosier (Sharon, ON) picked up the shutout in goal, turning aside all 26 shots
she faced.
The two teams finish up their three-game series Sunday morning, 9:30 a.m., at the Sportsplex.
