CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada’s Annual General Meeting will take place this weekend in St. John’s,
Newfoundland, bringing together over 400 regional and provincial hockey representatives from across Canada to
discuss issues relating to amateur hockey in Canada.
This year’s Hockey Canada AGM will take place May 19-23rd, with all meetings being held at the Delta St.
John’s Hotel.
Amongst the subjects and agenda items up for discussion by the provincial representatives, including
Hockey Canada’s Board of Directors, Hockey Canada’s Life Members, representatives of Hockey Canada's councils
(Female, Junior, Minor, Senior, Hockey Development) as well as partner organizations are:
- Hockey Canada’s strategic plan and objectives for 2006-07
- Review and discuss on-going body checking research projects
- Rules emphasis including checking from behind, head checking, prevent the use of the stick to impede a
player's progress and reduce stick fouls
- Proposed changes to rink dimensions (blue lines and goal lines) and reducing the size of goaltending
equipment
- Discussion on the Canadian Development Model which specifically deals with junior age player
eligibility
- Parent Education Resource Tools and 3-Year public service campaign
- Minor Hockey Regional Summit Implementation Plan for 06-07
- Establishing the locations of future National Championships
- Recognition of Hockey Canada Award Recipients and National Champions
- Recognition of departing Hockey Canada Board Members
- Recognition of Canada’s 2006 Women’s Olympic and Men’s Paralympic Gold Medal Teams
- Voting for Hockey Canada’s Referee-in-Chief, a volunteer Board position
