CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI – The Prince Albert Mintos (West) and the Calgary Buffaloes (Pacific) will face off for
gold at the 2006 TELUS Cup on Sunday.
The Mintos take a perfect 6-0 record in to the gold medal game of the 2006 TELUS Cup after defeating the
Patriotes de Chateauguay 8-0 in the first semi final. The Calgary Buffaloes, who started off 0-2 at the TELUS
Cup, turned things around and earned their fourth victory with a 4-2 win over the Toronto Junior Canadiens in
the second semi final on Saturday.
The Prince Albert Mintos have been dominating the Championship since game one, and the semi finals were no
exception. The Western representative dealt the Patriotes de Chateauguay (Quebec) an 8-0 defeat, their worst
loss in the 29 year history of the event.
The Mintos scored early and often as the Championships Top Forward Matthew Robertson scored his first of
five goals a mere 15 seconds into the game. Goalie Dustin Tokarski had another stellar performance in net for
the Mintos as he recorded his second shut out of the Championship with a 29 save performance.
In the second semi final, the Calgary Buffaloes took an early 2-0 lead in the first period and were able
to hang on to defeat the Toronto Junior Canadiens 4-2. Calgary netminder Jacob Deserres made 21 saves in the
victory earning him his fourth win of the Championship.
Forward Chad Golanowski scored the game winning goal for the Buffaloes, and with the victory, Calgary is
in a position to win its second National Midget Championship, its’ first since 1989.
The Bronze medal match-up will feature the Toronto Junior Canadiens (Central) versus the Patriotes
de Chateauguay (Quebec) at 8:30 am AT / 7:30am ET on Sunday.
The Gold medal game will take place on Sunday, April 30th at 12:00 pm AT/11:00 pm ET and will be
broadcast live on TSN/RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcaster.
