Montreal (Quebec) – The 2006 TELUS Cup raised $5,000 for the Prince Edward Island Hockey
Association (PEIHA) and the Charlottetown Minor Hockey Association (CMHA), two organizations dedicated to
offering high quality programs to more than 6,000 of P.E.I.’s minor players.
TELUS donated $50 to the organizations for each goal scored during the 19 game tournament, to
a maximum of $5,000.
"As title sponsor and long time partner of Hockey Canada, TELUS wanted to create a
unique program that would contribute to P.E.I.’s next class of players while recognizing the talent
demonstrated during the competition,” says Steve Podborski, Executive Director of Sport at TELUS. “We are
honoured to be giving back to a community that hosted such an exciting sporting event.”
As most valuable player of the tournament, the Calgary Buffaloes’ Mike Connolly won a $1,000
scholarship from TELUS. His performance also directly contributed to P.E.I.’s minor hockey associations and
the next generation of hockey players.
"Hockey PEI is extremely excited to share in the proceeds with Charlottetown Minor
Hockey from this great initiative supported by TELUS. Monies received will be used to further enhance
and expand our development programs for our members at the grass roots level,” explains Rob Newson Executive
Director of Hockey PEI.
