VANCOUVER (BC) – Canada’s National Men’s Sledge Hockey Team will face the USA in a two-game series in
Vancouver on January 3-4, 2006 at the PNE Agrodome as part of RBC Fan Fest, as it continues to prepare for
the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy from March 10-20, 2006.
Hockey fans in Vancouver are encouraged to come out to learn more about sledge hockey and to watch
Canada’s Sledge Hockey Team in action, and cheer them on as they prepare for the 2006 Paralympic Games.
This will mark the fifth and sixth times that Canada and the USA have faced off this season in sledge
hockey action. Canada’s record during the 2005-06 season is 5-1, including a 3-1 record against the USA.
Canada recently captured the German Cup, an invitational event which also featured Germany, Norway and the
USA. Canada’s Billy Bridges was named the Most Valuable Player at this event.
“These are two very important games for Canada as we prepare for the Paralympic Winter Games, but also
because as a coaching staff, we are in the final stages of finalizing our roster,” said head coach Jeff
Snyder. “USA is a perennial medal contender at the Paralympics, so this will be a great opportunity to see
where we stand less than three months from the Games.”
Both of Canada’s games vs. USA will be held at the PNE Agrodome in Vancouver, in conjunction with the 2006
IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship’s RBC Fan Fest. Admission is free for all practices and games.
Canada’s players and staff are available to the media after all practices and games. For media looking for
interviews, please call Hockey Canada’s Manager, Sledge Hockey, Chantal Champagne at 403-561-9965
