ZURICH-KLOTEN, Switzerland – General manager Doug Armstrong has added defenceman Braydon Coburn
(Shaunavon, Sask./Philadelphia, NHL) to Canada’s roster for the remainder of the 2009 IIHF World
Championship.
Coburn, 24, is the 24th player on Canada’s active roster, which now includes three goaltenders, nine
defencemen and 11 forwards. Forward James Neal continues to be on Canada’s active roster, but cannot compete
in the remainder of the tournament due to an eye injury. Canada has one additional roster spot available, as
the roster limit is 25.
Canada’s roster includes 14 players with world championship experience (Armstrong, Doan, Fisher, Hamhuis,
Heatley, Horcoff, Lombardi, Mason, Phillips, Roloson, Roy, St. Louis, Spezza, Weber). Seven of the world
championship rookies (Coburn, Doughty, Harding, Schenn, Stamkos, Upshall, White) have had international
experience with Canada’s National Junior Team.
Canada faces either the Czech Republic or Finland in its first game of the qualification round at the 2009
IIHF World Championship, on Thursday, April 30 at 2:15 p.m. ET/8:15 p.m. local time.
