GATINEAU, QC – The Saskatoon Contacts (West) and the Intrépide de Gatineau (Host) will face off for the
gold medal at the 2005 TELUS Cup on Sunday afternoon. The Contacts advanced with a gritty 3-1 victory
over the Don Mills Flyers (Central) while the Intrépide defeated their rival, les Commandeurs de Lévis
(Quebec) 5-3.
Sunday’s gold medal game will be broadcast live on TSN/RDS Hockey Canada’s Official Broadcaster at 2:30pm
(Eastern).
The No.1 team in the tournament, the Saskatoon Contacts flew out of the gates early in their semi-final
notching two goals in the first 65 seconds of the game and never looked back. Goaltender Travis Yonkman
who stopped 30 of 31 shots was Saskatoon’s player of the game while forward James New was named Don Mills
best player.
The Intrépide de Gatineau snapped a five game losing-streak versus the Commandeurs de Lévis dating back to
their regional playoffs as they defeated their arch-rivals 5-2 in front of a boisterous home crowd.
Three of the five games they lost were by one goal, and it was their perseverance and never-give-up attitude
that allowed them to finally defeat the Commandeurs in their most important match-up to date.
The Don Mills Flyers (Central) will face the Commandeurs de Lévis in Sunday morning’s bronze medal game
which will take place at 10:30 am (Eastern). In their only meeting of the tournament the Contacts downed the
Intrépide 4-2.
