WINNIPEG, MB – Canada’s National Junior team announced on Wednesday evening that defenceman Kyle Quincey
(Caledon, ON) has been released due to Brent Seabrook’s recovery from injury. Canada’s roster now
stands at 22 players (2 goaltenders, 7 defenseman and 13 forwards).
Canada trimmed its selection camp roster from 32 players to 23 players on December 16. Since then,
Canada’s roster has included eight defencemen. Returning defenceman Brent Seabrook (Tsawwassen, BC) was
injured during an intersquad game on December 13, and has been listed as ‘day to day’. IIHF rules state that
the maximum number of players allowed to be named to each country’s roster at the event in Grand Forks is 22
players.
“We felt that Brent Seabrook’s injury has progressed to the point that he is far enough along to be able
to again participate and compete within the next few days,” said Sutter. “With that, we wanted to cut our
roster down to seven defensemen prior to traveling to Grand Forks tomorrow afternoon.”
The 2005 IIHF World Junior Championship takes place in Grand Forks, ND, December 25, 2004 to January 4,
2005.
Canada’s first game at the 2005 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship will be December 25 versus Slovakia
at 3:30pm CT/ 4:30pm ET (TSN/RDS/FAN radio network – check local listings).
