  • Clare Drake coached for28 seasons the University of Alberta Golden Bears, from 1956 to 1989 (with exceptions being in 1957, 1958, 1970, 1976, 1980 and 1984). He has amassed a record of697 wins,296 losses and37 ties in1,030 games (a.695 winning percentage).
  • He coached the Golden Bears to6 CIAU Championships and17 Canada West Championships.
  • Clare Drake became the winningest Intercollegiate Hockey Coach in North America on October 8, 1985, in a game against the Red Deer College Kings by earning his556th victory.

  • At international level, Clare Drake coached the Canadian Student National Team to the Gold Medal at the 1981 World Student Games in Jaca, Spain, to a Silver Medal at the 1972 World Student Games in Lake Placid, New York and to a Bronze Medal at the 1987 World Student Games in Poprad, Czechoslovakia.
  • In 1985, he was Head Coach for Team Canada entry in the Spengler Cup (Davos, Switzerland) which won the Gold Medal.
  • In 1980, he was Co-Coach of the Canadian Olympic Team (with Tom Watt and Lorne Davis) which finished 6th at the Winter Olympic Games in Lake Placid, NY.
  • During the 1992-93, he was Special Assignments Coach with the San Jose Sharks
  • During the 1989-90 season, he was Assistant Coach of the Winnipeg Jets of the NHL.
  • During the 1975-76 season, he was the Head Coach of the Edmonton Oilers of the World Hockey Association.

Points of Interest
  • In the 1967-68 season, Clare Drake coached both the University of Alberta Golden Bears football and hockey teams to CIAU Championships, the only time in CIAU history that one coach has won National Championships in two major sports during the same season. Alberta defeated McMaster University Mauraders 10-9 in the Vanier Cup for the football title and the Loyola University Warriors 5-4 for the hockey title.
