Red 2 vs White/University of Manitoba 4
Selection Camp - Exhibition
In front of almost 4000 fans, the search continues for the twenty-two players who will make up Team Canada for the 2005 World Junior Hockey Championship. Canada’s top junior players were dispersed onto Team Canada RED (20 players) and the Team Canada WHITE/ University of Manitoba Bisons (9 Bisons along with 11 members of Canada’s Junior camp roster).
Patrice Bergeron (Ancienne-Lorette, QC), a veteran of one NHL season and a Men’s World Championship gold medalist, scored his first goal in camp at 2:58 for Team Canada, on assists from Sidney Crosby (Cole Harbour, NS) and Shawn Belle (Edmonton, AB).
Team White / Bisons responded in kind with two unanswered goals. Bison David Cameron found the net at 10:28 and then Corey Perry (Peterborough, ON) put the Team White/Bisons, ahead for good at 18:34 of the opening period.
In the third period, while fans were still settling in their seats, Ryan Stone (Calgary, AB) added an insurance marker for Team White/Bisons, at 0:21. Jeff Carter (London, ON) made this game close, beating Réjean Beauchemin (Winnipeg, MB) from the slot with a quick one-timer, at 15:27, but Stone, with his second, added an empty net goal, as the White team/Bisons, boosted by a number of Team Canada hopefuls, came away with a 4-2 win.
Beauchemin and Kevin Nastiuk (Edmonton, AB) shared duties for the winning Team White/Bisons’ side, while Devan Dubnyk (Calgary, AB) and Jeff Glass (Cochrane, AB) had the loss.
Team Canada faces off with the University of Manitoba Bisons again on Wednesday, December 15th.
