(Halifax, NS) In a media briefing today at Halifax Metro Centre, Fred MacGillivray, President& CEO of Trade Centre Limited and Chair of the 2008 IIHF Men’s World Hockey Championship, announced that Halifax will host the Team Canada pool in the round-robin portion of the 2008 World Championship, being staged in partnership with Quebec City.
The Championship will take place from May 1-18, 2008. Twenty-four round-robin games plus two quarter final games will be played in Halifax at Halifax Metro Centre. Thirty games will be played in Quebec City at Le Colisee Pepsi, including two quarter finals, two semi-finals and bronze and gold medal games.
Stated Scott Ferguson, Executive Vice-President of Trade Centre Limited and Halifax Chair of the 2008 Championship: “Our experience with the World Junior and the World Women’s Championships has been a huge asset in planning for the 2008 World Men’s Hockey Championship. Halifax’s tradition of support for major sporting events, an experienced, eager volunteer labour force and really enthusiastic fans are all recognized as valuable assets and are keeping us top of mind when these opportunities arise. Essentially, they allow us to continue to build on our many event successes.”

The International Ice Hockey Federation celebrates its 100th anniversary and Quebec City its 400th anniversary in 2008. The 2008 Halifax/Quebec City Championship will mark the first time the event has ever been held in Canada.

Packages for the 26 games are priced at $990 and $870. A payment plan is available – with a deposit of $90 and three additional installments of $300 or $260 each.
