PIESTANY, SLOVAKIA – Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team will begin its quest for gold on Tuesday, August 12 as the 2008 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament begins.
Canada, which has won this tournament three of the past four years, will open the event against Switzerland in Group B action in Piestany, Slovakia on Tuesday, August 12 (3 p.m. local time, 9 a.m. EDT). It will be the first of three games in three days for Canada, which faces Sweden on Wednesday, August 13 and Slovakia on Thursday, August 14.
The top team from Pool A will face the top team from Pool B in the gold medal game on August 16. The two second-place teams will meet for bronze.
Canada played two exhibition games in preparation for the tournament, defeating the United States 6-4 on Saturday and beating the Czech Republic 4-2 on Sunday.
