Moscow, Russia – Six days after convening for the first time in Toronto, as of end of day Saturday, Team Canada has only two more practices left prior to the opening to the Canada/ Russia Super Series in Ufa, Russia on August 27th. On Saturday, the team held another vigorous workout, including a 15 minute scrimmage as head coach Brent Sutter looks to prepare the group for what awaits in Northern Russia.

With Russia having already played two exhibition games, the coaching staff wanted to help get the rust off with some scrimmage time. In no uncertain times, Sutter reminded the players that they were to approach this as if a game situation. A few solid bodychecks later, and it was clear that the message had been received loud and clear.

The coaching staff also announced the captain and alternate captains for the series. Milan Lucic, a native of Vancouver, will wear the ‘C’ for Canada in what will be his first ever international experience. Lucic has big game experience however, having led the Vancouver Giants to the Memorial Cup this past spring, where he was named the Most Valuable Player.

Returnees Karl Alzner and Sam Gagner will wear an ‘A’, as will Brandon Sutter.

In the afternoon, the team visited Red Square and a famous walking street in Moscow before having dinner at the Canadian Embassy.

Sunday will be Canada’s final day in Moscow, with a mid-afternoon flight to Ufa planned. There is very little preparation time left for Team Canada, with a pre-game skate on Monday morning. Game time on Monday night is 7 pm local, which 9 am Eastern.
