Hockey Canada and Best Buy have teamed up for a four-year agreement that will see the consumer electronics retailer and e-tailer become an international marketing partner of Hockey Canada. Through this strategic relationship, Best Buy Canada scores exclusive promotion rights in the consumer electronics and entertainment retailer category, as well as full event sponsorship benefits at all Hockey Canada-hosted events.

“Best Buy is excited about the partnership with Hockey Canada and is proud to support amateur hockey at the grassroots and international levels,” said Susan Matthews, Director of Marketing for Best Buy. “We are looking forward to being a part of a sport and organization that touches so many players, coaches and volunteers across the country.”

The new agreement includes six national events per year – TELUS Cup, RBC Royal Bank Cup, Esso Women’s Nationals, World Under-17 Challenge, Women’s Under-18 Championship, and the World Junior A Challenge – and a minimum of two international events – 2007 World Women’s Hockey Championship in Winnipeg and Selkirk, Manitoba, 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa, Ontario. In addition, it includes all national team pre-tournament events hosted by Hockey Canada.

Scott Smith, Hockey Canada’s Senior Executive Vice President, feels this agreement will have definite benefits for both groups.

“Hockey Canada is elated to have Best Buy join our corporate partner family,” Smith said. “This relationship will give Best Buy a rare opportunity to interact with fans of hockey from coast to coast across our country, and will undoubtedly bring great value to Hockey Canada’s programs and events.”
