Saint John, NB – Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre is pleased to announce that they will be hosting a 24 Hour Marathon Hockey Game, January 19-20, 2007 in Rothesay, New Brunswick to help raise funds for underprivileged children who cannot afford the costs associated with playing hockey in their local community.
Forty-two players from around the Atlantic Region will gather at the Rothesay Arena on Friday, January 19th beginning at 9:00am and will play continuously until 9:00am on Saturday Morning. Two teams of 21 players will play hockey continuously for 24 hours fulfilling their commitment to sponsors, the cause and their own personal goals in supporting opportunities for youth participation in our national pastime.
“One of the goals of Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre and the four Atlantic Branches is to provide opportunities for all youth interested in playing our great game,” stated Trevor Murphy, Manager of Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre and one of the organizers of the Atlantic Marathon Hockey Game. “Each of us involved with this event have benefited from our participation in minor hockey and we want to assist the youth of our communities in having the same tremendous opportunities each of us had growing up in Atlantic Canada.”
The funds raised through the Atlantic Marathon Hockey Game will be distributed among the four Atlantic Hockey Branches to assist with programming which will provide underprivileged children with the opportunity to participate in our great game and to have the opportunity to learn the life lessons which being involved in an organized sport can teach youth.
“The Atlantic Marathon Game is a huge undertaking by the players involved and is not an easy task,” said Brad Taylor, Development Coordinator at Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre and Event Manager for the Atlantic Marathon Hockey Game. “This game will allow our players to raise money for a great cause and do something which is very Canadian and true to our roots. Our corporate partners and sponsors will see the value in our efforts and the good that this event will spin off in communities across our region. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved.”
Further details will be forthcoming regarding this event. Should you wish to get involved and support this event, please contact Brad Taylor at Hockey Canada’s Atlantic Regional Centre – (506) 642-0490 or email@example.com
