National Women's Under 22 Nike Development Camp Set for Toronto
August 9, 2002

CALGARY, AB - The Canadian Hockey Association announced details Thursday for Canada's upcoming National Women's Under 22 Team NIKE Development Camp. The camp, which runs from August 10-18 at the Beatrice Ice Gardens in Toronto, ON will feature 29 of Canada's best Under 22 female hockey players.

At the completion of camp, the coaching staff will select 22 players to travel to Lake Placid, NY to face-off against Team USA's Under 22 team in a three-game series.

Team Canada's Under 22 Head Coach Karen Hughes (University of Toronto Varsity Blues) and assistant coaches Terry Matheson (University of Manitoba Bisons) and Laura Solberg (Team Saskatchewan) will be evaluating players during the camp's practices and intra-squad games.

"The rise in female hockey over the past few years has been incredible, which has benefited the Under 22 program," said Hughes. "I am looking forward to an exciting camp and I am confident that we will be ready for a great series in Lake Placid."

Since naming the roster in early July, the CHA announced today that here have been two player changes to the Under 22 NIKE development camp roster. Goaltender Rachel Barrie (Arnprior, ON) and forward Cheryl Muranko (Cambridge, ON) have both withdrawn from the camp due to illness (mononucleosis). Forward Valerie Hall of Niagara Falls, ON and goaltender Lisa Robertson of Oakville, ON and have been selected to fill the vacant roster spots.

Joining the 29 Under 22 players at the NIKE development camp in Toronto will be 16 of Canada's best non-Olympic senior-aged players. These players will be attending camp to enhance competition and to be evaluated for the possibility of attending future

National Women's Team Evaluation Camps.
