CALGARY, ALBERTA Forward Eric Staal, of the OHL's Peterborough Petes, has been added to Canada's National Junior Team Development Camp roster. Staal will replace forward Joffrey Lupul, of the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers, who is unable to attend camp due to a back injury.
Staal, 17, played for Canada's National Under 18 Team twice last year, at the August 2001 Six Nations Cup and at the IIHF World Under 18 Championship in April, 2002. The native of Thunder Bay, ON was Peterborough's third top scorer in 2001-2002, with 23 goals and 39 assists in 56 games.
Canada's National Junior Team's Development Camp runs from August 10-20, 2002 in Halifax, NS.
Meanwhile, forward Ryan Stone, of the WHL's Brandon Wheat Kings, has been released from Canada's National Under 18 Team Development/Selection Camp after the native of Calgary, AB sustained a concussion in Sunday's Red/White Intrasquad Game.
Canada's National Under 18 Summer Team Development/Selection Camp runs through at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary, AB. The roster of 33 players will be trimmed down to 22 players on prior to the team departing for Europe for the Eight Nations Under 18 Cup in Slovakia from August 12-18, 2002
