CALGARY, ALBERTA - A Canadian delegation will attend the first ever International Ice Hockey Federation Development Camp August 1-7 in Nymburk, Czech Republic, the Canadian Hockey Association announced on Wednesday.
The delegation will be comprised of six players born in 1984, two coaches and the Canadian Hockey AssociationÕs Director, Development/Manager, Coaching, Johnny Misley. The Canadian delegation will be able to take information and experiences from the Camp back to their minor hockey associations and immediately implement the ideas to further develop the game within Canada.
"This event will provide our country's players and coaches with a truly unique international experience that they may never go through again," said Misley. "This trip is more then just about the game of hockey, it's about culture and developing international relations. The camp will leave the participants with a lifetime of memories."
The six players attending will be goaltender Marc-Olivier Gignac of St-Tite, QC, defensemen Paul-AndrŽ Bourgoin of MontrŽal, QC and Scott Scherger of Macklin, SK and forwards Luc Belliveau, of Moncton, NB, Alex Leavitt, of Edmonton, AB, and Jeff Tambellini, of Port Moody, BC.
Joining Misley and the players to complete the delegation will be coaches Bob Braybrook of Outlook, SK and Donnie Gallant of Charlottetown, PEI, both experienced in the CHA Regional Under 17 Program of Excellence.
The camp format is designed in such a fashion that it is a comprehensive/learning experience for all participants. All players, coaches, game officials and administrators will be involved in the on and off-ice practices, games, the "Fitness Challenge" and all other camp activities.
