Norm Dueck Named Manager, Officiating

CALGARY, ALBERTA - The Canadian Hockey Association has named Norm Dueck, of Okotoks, Alberta as the new Manager, Officiating and Todd Jackson, of Gloucester, ON as Manager, Safety and Risk Management, the Director, Development/Manager, Coaching with the CHA, Johnny Misley, announced on Friday.

Dueck, 40 , has been with Western Hockey League for the past 18 years, serving over that time as Director of Information, league statistician and Executive Assistant. Dueck also holds his Level III certification through the Canadian Hockey Association's Officiating Program.

Dueck replaces Vernon Doyle, the CHA's Manager, Officiating who accepted a position with Sport PEI.

As the Manager, Officiating, Dueck will manage all the development materials for the officiating program, including rule changes, manage the evaluation and assignment of officials for all National and International competitions, coordinate National officiating clinics and seminars and serve as the staff resource person or representative on the Referees' Committee, the Equipment Review Committee and the Standards Development Committee.

'It is a tribute to the Officiating Program, that we are able to have someone of the calibre of Norm Dueck to step in and assume the mandate of managing our officiating program,' said Misley.

Todd Jackson, 36, has ten years of experience as a Canadian Hockey Safety Program instructor. He has served as Chairman with the Canadian Hockey Safety Program Committee for five years. Jackson was also the Equipment Manager for Canada's National Women's Team at both the 19 World Hockey Championships as well as at the 1998 Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

As Manager, Safety and Risk Management, Jackson will be responsible for the delivery and implementation of the Canadian Hockey Safety Program, the CHA's successful Speak Out Program concentrating on abuse and harassment as well as various risk and safety initiatives. The newly created position will work with the 13 member branches of the CHA to ensure effective delivery and implementation of existing safety programs.
