Goaltender Rick Tabaracci Added to Canada's Lineup for 1999 World Hockey Championship in Norway

CALGARY, AB -- Team Canada general manager Bryan Murray announced Thursday that goaltender Rick Tabaracci of the Washington Capitals has been added to the Canada's Men's Team for the 1999 World Hockey Championship in Norway May 1-16,1999.

Tabaracci, a native of Toronto ON, completed the 1998-99 with a 2.51 goals against average in 23 games with the Capitals. The 30 year-old has just completed his 10th season in the National Hockey League, with stops in Winnipeg, Calgary, Tampa Bay and Washington.

Murray also announced that forward Jean-Yves Roy, of Rosemere, QC, will also be attending the three-day mini-camp in Toronto in the hopes of being named to the team heading overseas on Sunday, April 25th. Roy is a veteran of international hockey, having played with the Canadian National Team during the 1992--94 seasons, and was a member of Team Canada at the 1994 Olympics. This past season, Roy played professional hockey in Austria.

Canada will begin practicing in Toronto on Friday, April 23rd. A three-day camp will take place at the Beatrice Ice Gardens on the York University campus. The team will depart April 25th for Stockholm, Sweden where they will continue training before heading to Norway on April 29th.

Canada opens the 1999 World Championship on Saturday, May 1 against Slovakia. The two game gold medal final will be held May 15th and May 16th. TSN and RDS will both televise the World Hockey Championship, beginning with Canada's first game in the second round. All of Canada's games will also be broadcast on FAN 590.
