LONDON, ON - Canada's National Men's Team was defeated 5-4 by the Czech Republic National Team Monday at the Thompson Arena in London, Ontario.
The two teams exchanged goals in the first period. Defenceman Wes Jarvis, of Toronto, ON opened the scoring forTeam Canada at 9:51 on a power play. At 13:41, the Czech Republic replied, also on a power play, as Petr Mika found the mark.
The Czech Republic took the lead again in the second, as David Moravec scored at 15:12. Canada's Warren Morris, of St. John's, NF replied at 18:24 to make the score 2-2 after two periods.
Early in the final period, the Czech Republic pulled ahead for good as Vaclav Kral scored at 0:32. Less then five minutes later, as Martin Spanhel gave the Czech Republic a two goal advantage.
Morris pulled Canada to within a goal at 15:48 but the Czech Republic added another insurance marker at 19:11, as Moravec scored his second goal of the game.
Morris completed his hat trick at 19:37, as the Czech Republic defeated Canada for the first time in four games.
The two teams meet again Tuesday, April 6th at the Guelph Memorial Gardens before closing out the series Wednesday, April 7th at the Ottawa Civic Centre. Both games start at 7:30 pm.
