BOISE, ID - Canada's National Men's Team lost to the West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) All Star team on Tuesday, by the score 6-4, in front of a sold out crowd in Boise, Idaho.
The WCHL All Star team had 3 goals in the first five minutes of the game from Mike Taylor and Kyle Reeves, both of the San Diego Gulls. Canada's Ryan Foster, of Fergus, ON, then collected a goal to make the score 3-1 at end of the first period.
Idaho right wing Cal Ingraham and Phoenix left wing Hugo Belanger would both score unassisted goals in the second period to give the WCHL a 5-1 lead. Doug Lidster, former NHL'er and now player/ assistant coach for Canada's National Men's Team, made the score 5-2 with a goal late in the second period.
Canada came out strong in the third period with Chris Szysky, of White City, SK, and Justin Cardwelll of Whitby, ON, both scoring goals to make the score 5-4 midway through the third period.
Reeves, of the WCHL All Star team, added an empty net goal at 19:42 to close the scoring out for a 6-4 win.
"We had a slow start to the game," said Willie Desjardins, Assistant Coach for the Canadian National Men's team. "We came out strong in the second and third periods but, after being down 3-0 in the first 5 minutes, we just couldn't catch the lead."
The Canadian National Team will head back to Calgary Wednesday and then will travel to Japan for a series of games in Tokyo and Nagoya on January 23, 24 & 25.
